The CISV Washington, DC Chapter was founded in 1971. For over 50 years, our community has brought together families and young people united by a shared belief in peace, friendship, and global understanding.
Our chapter represents a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, lived experiences, neighborhoods, and family stories, spanning the District, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. We view this diversity as one of our greatest strengths. It shapes our learning, deepens our empathy, and reflects the real-world communities our youth will engage with locally and globally.
We believe that what our delegates experience through CISV is not just about the places they visit or the people they meet, it’s about recognizing our shared humanity. “How alike am I to you?” isn’t just a line in the CISV song. It’s a daily practice, and a core part of who we are as a chapter.
